Blind filters are used in order to back flush (clean) the group head. There are two different styles of blind filters, baskets and inserts. A stainless steel blind filter is always the best option as it seals and pressurises the group head perfectly, and allows pressure to be built up and then released by the expansion valve, in turn cleaning the group head. You can also add a spoon of chemical cleaner to the basket in order to break down the coffee oils and giver the group head a better clean.
